Nach ihrer chem. Grundstruktur benannte Klasse von Antidepressiva. Die Wirkung erfolgt unspezifisch auf alle Neurotransmitter, daher treten oftmals starke Nebenwirkung auf. Zahlreiche Fälle von tödlichen Vergiftungen durch Überdosierung bekannt. Als Antidot hat sich Physostigmin bewährt.
